About Sean

Sean Ortiz is a Senior at San Diego State University and the Project Manager for the QL+ Student Chapter at SDSU.  Sean is a Senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Biomedical Engineering.  He is graduating in December 2019.  Sean and other members of the Student Chapter are working on the Surfboard Transfer Device to ease the process of getting adaptive surfers in the water.  Currently, it is very difficult to get adaptive surfers oriented in the water.  This project should help simplify this process.

Question & Answer

Why did you choose your major?  I’ve always wanted to help people. Studying engineering has and will continue allow me to develop technology to do so.

Describe your experience working with QL+ so far.  What is the biggest challenge?  What has been rewarding? I  helped establish this Chapter last semester so it’s been very busy working to get the organization off the ground.  Some off the biggest challenges I’ve faced as Project Manager is how to correctly utilize the skills that all members bring to the table.  The biggest reward is finally seeing all the research everyone has done come together into a design.

What would you say to other students about QL+?  It is a special opportunity to work on adaptive technology that will affect people’s lifestyle and allow them to do things they previously didn’t think was possible.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to work in research and development in the Cardiovascular Field.

What has been your proudest moment of your college career? The proudest moment of my college career was having the ability to present the research I conducted in the Cardiovascular Bioengineering Lab at the California State Universities Bioengineering Conference.

What three words best describe you?  Determined, funny, creative.
